# Record a paper signature

> Upload a signed paper copy to complete a pending request and keep the evidence with the person's document history.

Use **Record paper signature** when someone has signed a paper copy instead of completing the request online. ClearPolicy stores the uploaded file and marks the request complete for that document revision.

## Before you start

* You must be able to act on the request. Group Managers are limited to their assigned groups.
* The request must be pending, not completed, canceled, or expired.
* You need the signed paper copy for that request's document version.
* Upload a PDF, JPEG, PNG, or WebP file up to **25 MB**. A note alone is not enough.

## Upload the signed paper copy

1. Find the pending request in **Requests**, a person's request list, or the document's **Compliance** tab.
2. Open the actions menu and choose **Record paper signature**.
3. Upload the signed paper copy.
4. Confirm that you obtained the paper signature or acknowledgment from that person for the document.
5. Submit the form.

## What changes

The request becomes complete and reminders stop. Completion counts for the revision covered by the request; an older version can still be **Outdated**.

The record shows **Paper on file**. Activity includes **Paper Signature Recorded** and the team member who recorded it.

## Download the evidence

Choose **Download uploaded file** on the completed request. This returns the signed paper copy you uploaded.

Paper on file is not an electronic signature captured by ClearPolicy. It does not include an electronic attestation certificate. See [how signatures and records work](/concepts/attestations#paper-on-file).
